The U.S. Food and Drug Administration considers e-cigs an unapproved new drug because of a lack of scientific proof that they're safe or effective. The FDA is trying to halt importation of e-cigs, but isn't seizing products already being sold in the United States. "The FDA has been detaining and refusing importations since at least last summer of these so-called 'electronic cigarettes,' " FDA Please don’t be blinded by Big Tobacco defense tactics (unless you work for them). The fact is tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of disease, disability, and death in the United States. Between 1964 and 2004, cigarette smoking caused an estimated 12 million deaths, including 4.1 million deaths from cancer, 5.5 million deaths from cardiovascular diseases, 2.1 million deaths from respiratory diseases, and 94,000 infant deaths related to mothers smoking during pregnancy. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cigarette smoking results in more than 400,000 premature deaths each year—about 1 in every 5 U.S. deaths. Yet they are going to put a strangle hold on a product that contains 4-8 chemicals none of which have been proven to cause cancer and the majority of which is Propylene Glycol (declared harmless by the FDA), Dihydrogen monoxide Oxidane (Water), Glycerol (safe for human consumption) various flavoring (also used in food and candy) and Nicotine (also not proven to cause cancer). Now the Government in all its wisdom has decided that Cigarettes are safe, but e-cigs are not. I find it to be a very alarming coincidence that the majority of the Government import blocks have started April 1st (The day the tobacco tax is raised to 160%) Thank You, www.theicig.com |
